Patient Services

Helping our patients maintain healthy teeth and gums is our first priority. We have all the resources at our disposal to help you keep the healthy teeth you have or replace the teeth you’ve lost. We offer a number of options for many dental problems, such as missing teeth.  Methods of tooth replacement include dental implants, bridges, and dentures. We can treat or prevent virtually any dental problem. Contact Stuyvesant Dental today to schedule an appointment.

General Family Dentistry

Stuyvesant Dental has been providing a full range of dental procedures, to our adult and children patients, for over 35 years. Digital radiographs are now exclusively used for diagnostic purposes. Not only are they extremely quick and diagnostic, but they also reduce radiation by as much as 90%. Our patients receive state of the art materials and skills for all their dental needs. Computerized intra-oral cameras are used to simplify the viewing and understanding of our patient's dental needs. Safe and painless dentistry is our foremost concern. Preventive dentistry is another emphasis of our office. Early detection of cavities, gum disease, and other dental abnormalities is essential for optimal dental health. Fluoride treatments and sealants are used in an effort to eliminate future decay. Nitrous oxide and earbuds are provided for the relaxation and comfort of our patients and to help those who are fearful of dentistry. Contact Stuyvesant Dental for your free consultation.

Bridges

Bridges are a natural-looking method of tooth replacement that work without requiring surgery like reflect dental implants. Bridges are artificial teeth that span the gap a missing tooth leaves. We are proud to offer E.max® and Bruxzir® ceramic bridges, the strongest and most natural looking bridges available.

Dentures

With new technology, we can create custom dentures that properly fit the contours of your mouth and look more natural than ever. We offer the advantage of dental implants to better secure the denture when sufficient supporting teeth are absent. In most cases, we can even place dentures at the same visit teeth are extracted. You'll never have to walk around without teeth. Tooth replacement with dentures is quick and effective.

Dental Implants

Stuyvesant Dental has been successfully placing dental implants for over 15 years. Dental implants are generally considered to be the best way to replace missing teeth. A dental implant is a titanium post (like a tooth root) that is surgically positioned into the jawbone beneath the gum line. Once the bone joins with the implant (osseointegration), a crown (artificial tooth) may then be placed onto the implant(s). This allows us to mount replacement teeth, sometimes on the same day, or a bridge into that area. An implant doesn't come loose like a denture can. Dental implants also benefit general oral health because they do not have to be anchored to other teeth, like bridges. At our office you can be sure that your tooth replacement will be handled competently at every stage.

Endodontics - Root Canal Therapy

Root canal therapy is designed to save teeth when the nerves have become infected. At that stage, the dental pulp must be removed and sealed to keep the infection from spreading to the jawbone or other teeth. With the use of advanced rotary technology, we can now perform one-hour root canal therapy, rendering a once feared procedure painless and convenient.

Cosmetic Treatments

The field of cosmetic dentistry has come of age in response to the growing recognition that a person's smile can be their most appealing feature. Technology now allows us to safely and simply correct discolored, misaligned, open spaces, and damaged teeth to give you virtually any smile you wish. We offer a wide array of cosmetic procedures including Zoom!® teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, Invisalign, porcelain crowns, bonding and tooth reshaping - some of the most popular procedures in our Manhattan office.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are an extremely popular option for patients seeking a healthy, attractive smile. One of the advantages of porcelain veneers is their versatility.

Porcelain veneers can be a solution for those with spaced teeth, stained teeth, chipped teeth, and even crooked teeth.

Porcelain veneers are thin porcelain laminates that are bonded to the front of the existing teeth. They are designed to be highly resistant to staining and chipping (period). Veneers are also durable, and can last more than a decade.

If you are interested in porcelain veneers, contact Stuyvesant Dental today.

Porcelain Crowns

Porcelain crowns fit over and completely cover existing teeth. Crowns are typically used when portions of the tooth have been lost due to decay or fracture.

Porcelain crowns can strengthen, straighten, and whiten cracked or damaged teeth. Also known as caps, porcelain crowns are custom-made to fit the affected tooth and match the surrounding teeth.

We work with an excellent dental laboratory to provide you with outstanding results.

Bonded/Tooth Colored Fillings

Stuyvesant Dental was one of the first dental offices to stop using mercury/amalgam fillings because less invasive, more esthetic dentistry was always our first priority. Besides being unsightly, amalgams require that healthy tooth structures be removed in order to place them. Old metal fillings can expand as they age, sometimes to the point of cracking the surrounding tooth.

We use a more esthetically pleasing, tooth-colored material that is stronger and nearly impossible to distinguish from the surrounding teeth.

If you have cavities or old mercury/amalgam fillings, contact Stuyvesant Dental about bonded / tooth colored fillings today.

Zoom!®Teeth Whitening

Virtually everyone can benefit from whiter teeth, and that’s why Zoom!® teeth whitening is one of the most popular treatments we offer. Zoom!® teeth whitening is the most effective method of teeth whitening available today. It goes far beyond store bought whitening pastes and gels to power out stains from coffee, tea, tobacco, and age.

Zoom!® teeth whitening is a two part procedure. First, a special whitening gel is applied to the teeth. Second, the gel is exposed to a special whitening lamp that allows the gel to penetrate deep into the teeth to lift out stains and dullness. The result is teeth that are six to ten shades lighter.

Tooth Recontouring

Tooth recontouring, sometimes called odontoplasty, is a simple, economical way to correct minor problems with misaligned, misshapen, or overlapping teeth. Tooth recontouring involves reshaping misaligned or poorly shaped teeth to create a more uniform, natural looking, attractive smile. The procedure is simple, fast, and effective.

Periodontics - Gum Treatment

Gum disease has been linked to cardiovascular or heart illness by the American Medical Association. Healthy gums generally surround teeth to a depth of approximately one eighth of an inch (3mm). As gum disease begins to develop, the crevice underneath the gums gets progressively deeper. As this deepening occurs, the gum tissue and teeth covered by the crevice become increasingly more difficult to clean, and bacterial reproduction can snowball.

Gum disease treatment can reverse the first stage of gum disease, gingivitis. Thorough cleanings by the hygienist or doctor in addition to supervised home care are all that are required. There is a periodontist on staff to provide more advanced gum disease treatment when necessary. We place a strong emphasis on preventive gum therapy and home care. Most gum disease treatment is non-surgical.

If you are experiencing some or all of the early signs of gum disease (bleeding, swelling, recession, pain, and/or odor), or just want to maintain the health of your gums, contact Stuyvesant Dental Associates for an appointment today.

Invisalign®

This advanced technique of orthodontics is a more comfortable and predictable way to straighten teeth and create a healthier smile.

We first evaluate our patients to determine if Invisalign® is the right choice. The next step is to take photographs and dental impressions. After careful evaluation, we send all necessary material to the Invisalign® Laboratory. Using sophisticated techniques, they analyze the data and send back a complete 3D imaging that we review with our patient. Once we are satisfied with the anticipated final outcome, the lab returns a series of clear, comfortable aligners.

We give our patients simple, thorough instructions on how to achieve the quickest and best results. Results are usually accomplished in as little as 6 to 10 months. Simpler, minor crowding can even take less time. Of course, we are never finished until our patient is completely satisfied.

Laser Dentistry

Laser Dentistry is Here!

With our state-of-the-art laser we are providing our patients with a gentler and a more predictable alternative. Numerous soft-tissue procedures can be painlessly performed. Some of them include re-shaping irregular tissue, surgeries, the treatment of gum disease, and the elimination of cold sores and canker sores

Oral Cancer Screening

The doctors at Stuyvesant Dental have always performed oral cancer screenings on all of our patients. Now, with the latest technology available, Dr Harry Pascal and Dr. Sumner Schwarz are better able to screen their patients for even earlier detection of this insidious disease.

According to the American Cancer Society, 2 to 4 percent of cancers diagnosed in the United States each year occur in the oral cavity. This includes sites on the lip, tongue, floor of the mouth, gums, and throat. Approximately 30,000 cases of oral cancer are diagnosed annually, and approximately 8,000 deaths occur each year from oral cancer. At the time oral cancer is diagnosed, more than half of the patients have invasive or metastatic disease, which reduces long-term survival rates. Early diagnosis is critical to increasing survival rates from this deadly and potentially disfiguring disease.

Cancer can start with early changes in the oral tissue that may not yet be visible to the naked eye. At Stuyvesant Dental our doctors utilize a new technology, ViziLite Plus®, an early detection system that safely uses an acetic acid solution in the mouth which is then viewed under a low-energy wavelength light. Abnormal tissue will appear white while normal tissue will appear dark. If an abnormal area is discovered, it can be marked with a dye and the patient will be referred for evaluation and/or biopsy by a specialist.

All patients should be screened since 27 percent of oral cancers occur in patients with no apparent risk factors. Key risk factors for oral cancer include: age (40 years or older), alcohol and tobacco use (especially in combination), exposure to sunlight, previous diagnosis of cancer, or a family history of the disease.
